Sara Nelson is a MN licensed teacher in the areas of Deaf/Hard of Hearing and K-12 literacy. She graduated from Illinois State University with an undergraduate degree in Deaf Education, completed her Reading Certification through Hamline and went on to finish her Masters in Literacy Education at Hamline in 2018. Sara completed her internship at Texas School for the Deaf and has worked in Early Childhood Special and General Education classrooms and elementary resource classrooms in the Twin Cities as well as providing itinerant services at all levels accumulating over 20 years of experience in a wide variety of educational settings. Sara has a special interest in early literacy, critical literacy and the development of compensatory and advocacy skills necessary for success in a fast-paced, global world. Sara enjoys working with students to increase knowledge, gain skills and grow confidence. She currently serves on the board of the Diane Grunewald Foundation serving youth who are Deaf and hard of hearing in the metro area. Sara lives in Prior Lake with her husband, 4 children, 3 cats, 13 fish and 2 snails. She enjoys reading, walking outside and a quiet house when the kids are finally asleep at night. Sara took a break from teaching to care for her growing family and now enjoys working with Triumph to serve students and communities again.
